Membrane: Tone Mirror Dance / 6.26.19

Membrane is an interactive audiovisual tone mirror that responds to nose movement. Built with web technologies, it uses PoseNet to recognize human features and react accordingly.

For this performance, Jaleesa Johnston, maximiliano and Sarah Brahim will perform improvised movement in concert with personalized Membranes, created and developed by Ashlin Aronin.

The nose is a site of embodied knowledge. We are told: follow your nose. It’s right under your nose. Our surroundings constantly and unconsciously enter our bodies, crossing the thin membrane between self and environment to inform us who and where we are.

Presented as part of an ongoing installation on Peripheral Forms curated by Sarah Turner. Also featuring work by Sarah Brahim.
